Costus Root Distillation Plant
The Costus Root Oil Distillation Plant is a precision-engineered system for extracting essential oil from Costus root (Saussurea costus)—a rare and valuable aromatic herb known for its earthy, woody fragrance and potent medicinal properties. Costus oil is widely used in perfumery, traditional medicine, incense, and cosmetics. MechoTech’s distillation plant uses advanced steam distillation technology to preserve the unique constituents of costus root, especially costunolide, while maximizing oil yield and maintaining purity.
The process begins with thorough cleaning and drying of Costus roots, followed by size reduction (chopping or grinding) to enhance the surface area. The processed roots are then placed into a steam distillation vessel, where high-temperature steam extracts the volatile compounds. The vapors pass through a condenser and into a separator, where oil and water naturally separate. The essential oil is then filtered and collected for storage.
