Manufacturing Process
Seed Preparation
Fenugreek seeds are cleaned, dehulled if required, and ground to 20–40 mesh. Moisture is controlled below 8% to ensure consistent extraction efficiency.
Defatting (Optional)
Seeds are first defatted with hexane to remove the fatty oil fraction, which is collected separately as fenugreek oil. The defatted cake proceeds to saponin extraction.
Aqueous / Alcoholic Extraction
The powder is extracted with 60–70% ethanol in heated extraction vessels to dissolve 4-hydroxyisoleucine and steroidal saponins into solution.
Filtration & Clarification
The extract liquor is filtered and clarified to remove all solid impurities, yielding a clear amber-coloured solution ready for concentration.
Evaporation
The clarified extract is evaporated under vacuum in a falling-film evaporator at below 65°C to yield a thick concentrated paste.
Spray Drying
The concentrated paste is spray-dried with maltodextrin carrier to yield a free-flowing, standardized fenugreek extract powder (40% saponins or 20% 4-HI by HPLC).
