Turmeric Extraction Plant

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is one of the most potent medicinal spices, renowned for its curcuminoid compounds with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Mechotech's turmeric extraction plants are engineered to yield standardized extracts of 95% curcuminoids by HPLC — the gold standard for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations.

Mechotech's turmeric extraction plant uses a multi-stage solvent extraction and purification process to isolate curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin from dried turmeric rhizomes. Our plants are built with SS 316L contact parts, GMP-compliant design, and closed-loop solvent recovery systems for maximum efficiency and minimal wastage. Each plant is custom-engineered to your capacity requirement — from 50 kg/batch pilot plants to multi-tonne industrial installations.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Dried turmeric rhizomes are cleaned, inspected, and coarsely ground to increase surface area. Particle size is controlled between 20–40 mesh for optimal solvent penetration.

2

Solvent Extraction

The powdered turmeric is loaded into extraction vessels where food-grade ethanol or hexane is circulated at controlled temperature. Curcuminoids are selectively dissolved into the solvent phase.

3

Miscella Filtration

The extract-laden solvent (miscella) is filtered through sparkler and micro filters to remove all particulate matter and residual plant material.

4

Solvent Evaporation

The filtered miscella passes through a falling-film evaporator under vacuum to recover 95–98% of the solvent. The concentrated oleoresin is collected in receivers.

5

Purification & Standardization

The crude extract is further purified using column chromatography or recrystallization to achieve the target curcuminoid concentration (95% by HPLC). Final standardization ensures batch-to-batch consistency.

6

Drying & Packaging

The purified extract is spray-dried or vacuum-dried to the desired moisture level, then milled, tested, and packed under inert atmosphere to preserve potency.

Fully automated PLC control with SCADA interface allows precise control of temperature, pressure, flow rates, and batch parameters with complete audit trails.

  • Custom Capacity

Plants are available from 50 kg/batch pilot scale to 5,000 kg/batch commercial scale, designed to your specific throughput and facility layout.

  • Explosion-Proof Safety

Full ATEX/PESO-compliant electrical fittings, flame arrestors, and pressure relief systems ensure safe operation with flammable solvents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What curcuminoid content can Mechotech's plant achieve?
Our turmeric extraction plants consistently deliver 95% curcuminoids by HPLC with proper raw material selection and process control. Standardization to lower concentrations (40%, 50%, 75%) is also possible.
Which solvents are used in turmeric extraction?
Food-grade ethanol is the preferred solvent for nutraceutical and food-grade extracts. Hexane or acetone-water mixtures are used for oleoresin and industrial-grade extraction. Our plants support multiple solvent options.
How long does installation take?
Typical installation and commissioning takes 45–90 days depending on plant capacity and site readiness. Mechotech provides complete turnkey installation, operator training, and post-commissioning support.
Can the plant process other botanicals besides turmeric?
Yes. Our extraction plants are multi-purpose by design. With minor parameter adjustments, the same plant can process ashwagandha, neem, ginger, and hundreds of other botanical raw materials.
